Help with lifting techniques (previously inflicted my self with lower back pain whilst lifting heavy objects)?

To get stronger would take regular workouts either in a gym or with weights at home. As for lifting it seems that the weights you are lifting should really be lifted by two people as being bulky it is difficult for one person to lift safely unlike weights used in a gym which are heavy but not bulky awkward shapes. But generally in lifting you need to keep your back straight and lift as much as possible with your legs so you squat down and keep the weight close to your body in fact pressed right against it and keeping your back straight slowly stand up , then if you need to turn while holding the weight turn your feet in the required direction , do not swivel at your waist.
